At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

The New Standard in CompactPCI
6U CompactPCI racks already conforming to PICMG2.16
Eching, Germany, November 22, 2001 - In September of this year the PICMG 2.16 specification was concluded, the main feature of which is that with the 6U CompactPCI racks two Ethernet channels with redundant switches are connected via the backplane. As one of the first suppliers, with the XL-PSB rack Kontron is now launching on the market such a product conforming to PICMG 2.16.
An important advantage of the new rack is that with the substitution of the Ethernet cabling, the hot-swap capability is improved and consequently, also the availability of CompactPCI systems. The systems in the Xtreamlink series possess as standard redundant hot-swap power supplies and a 2U fan drawer. Equipped with the DMXP64GX, Kontrons first PICMG 2.16-conformable 6U dual Pentium. III CPU low power, the XL-PSB rack becomes a top-class high availability system. Apart from the pin assignment according to PICMG 2.16, the rack also conforms to the specifications PICMG 2.9 R1.0, PICMG 2.5 R1.0 and PICMG 2.1 R2.0.
The XL-PSB 6U CompactPCI systems are available immediately.
