At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron reports two multi-million-euro design wins in the information and telecommunications sector

Eching, Munich, June 17, 2009. Kontron AG, one of the world's leading providers of embedded computer systems, has announced two design wins with a total volume of around $60 million. From the fourth quarter of 2009, and over an initial period of three years, Kontron will be supplying its latest Dual Nehalem CPU Motherboards for one of the world's largest manufacturers of highly complex technical applications for the information and telecommunications sector.

"The outsourcing trend among manufacturers of such applications is on the rise in times of macroeconomic tension," commented Kontron CEO Ulrich Gehrmann. He went on to say that, in order to remain competitive, an increasing number of companies are concentrating on their core competencies, and are relying on Kontron's high-performance and cost-efficient systems.
