Kontron PCI-760: PICMG 1.3 SHB with Intel® Q35 GMCH Chipset

Outstanding Server Performance Plus Advanced Management Features

SAN DIEGO/Nuremberg, Germany, November 28, 2007 – At the SPS/IPC/DRIVES, Kontron (Hall 7, Booth 306) introduces the new Kontron PCI-760 PICMG 1.3 System Host Board (SHB) featuring the latest Intel® Q35 GMCH embedded chipset and LGA-775 socket-based Intel processors.

The Kontron PCI-760 is equipped with multi-core Intel Core™ 2 Duo processors up to 3.0 GHz (E6850) and provides outstanding server performance combined with advanced remote management features based on Intel’s AMT 3.0 technology. For performance-hungry applications, the Kontron PCI-760 boosts power to 4 x 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad processors (Q6700) – an impressive level of performance which is ideal for asynchronous real-time embedded multi-processing applications, as an example. The Kontron PCI-760 is also designed to meet the requirements of the upcoming 45 nm processors – a feature that will extend the availability for long-life applications.

The Kontron PCI-760 is a perfect fit for applications such as industrial test and measurement with simultaneous data collection and evaluation, parallel processing of several video and/or audio streams, control and visualization of imaging technologies in medical and industrial applications as well as for the broad field of simulation technology.

The Kontron PCI-760 is equipped with Intel’s built–in, comprehensive Intel AMT 3.0 remote management engine and is one of the first embedded boards to implement this technology, offering enhanced security, remote manageability and cost savings for the embedded computing market. System managers of densely packed, space-saving servers – like the Kontron Industrial Silent Server – benefit from Intel AMT 3.0 because they can remotely carry out tasks such as installation of a new OS or setting BIOS parameters without the need for additional remote management hardware or an on-site presence. If there is an operating system failure, the Kontron PCI-760 allows the system manager to run diagnostics, update patches and reboot the system via the network from a central service system within a few minutes. The Kontron PCI-760 provides state-of-the-art system security since it supports the Intel Trusted Execution Technology™ and has an on-board trusted platform module – TPM 1.2 – for software and data protection.

With up to 1333 MHz front-side bus, the Kontron PCI-760 supports up to 8GBytes of fast DDR2 SDRAM and features a full range of interfaces: 1 x PEG, 4 x PCIe x1 and 1 x PCI routed to the backplane, 6 x 300Mbps SATA II (2 via backplane) and RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 functionality, 3 x 10/100/1000 base-T Ethernet (1 via backplane), 12 x USB 2.0 (4 via backplane), one parallel and two serial interfaces (16550 UART-compatible) and 7.1+2-channel HD-Audio Codecs (including digital input and output). Applications benefit from having the maximum number of interfaces routed to the backplane, which reduces system cabling and makes it highly flexible. Additional interfaces can be implemented via a mini-PCI Type IIIA connector. Kontron offers additional assemblies for LAN, WLAN and SCSI. If high-end PEG graphics are not needed, the integrated Intel GMA 3100 Graphics Media Accelerator supports DirectX 9.0c for full Windows Vista Aero compliance and resolutions of up to QXGA (2048 x 1536) at 75 Hz via a VGA connector on the bracket. Furthermore, an optional onboard rugged USB Intel Z-U130 flash module with a capacity of up to 8GBytes and a MTBF of 5 million hours makes it possible to build up maintenance-free systems without rotating non-volatile memory.

The Kontron PCI-760 will be available for purchase in January 2008 with Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Linux software packages. Additional operating systems are possible on a project basis.
