At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron AG: 2012 earnings affected by one-off effects

Eching near Munich, February 8, 2013 – Kontron AG, the globally leading manufacturer of embedded computer technology (ECT), reports EUR 547 million of revenue in the 2012 financial year according to preliminary figures, which is within the expected target corridor of EUR 540 million to EUR 555 million. The operating income [EBIT] will likely be around EUR minus 32 million. A significant part results from impairment write-offs of around EUR 19 million due to goodwill impairment testing. In addition fourth-quarter earnings were also impacted by other one-off effects and continued margin pressure.
Detailed figures for the 2012 financial year will be published on March 21, 2013 after the respective approvals and resolutions of the audited financials have been obtained.
