FieldWorks Inc. Reports Fourth Quarter And Year-End 2000 Results

Eden Praire, Minn., March 2, 2001 - FieldWorks Inc. (OTC BB: FWRX), a leading provider of field solutions, today announced fourth quarter 2000 revenue of $3.9 million, a 44 percent decrease over 1999 fourth quarter revenue of $7.0 million. For the year ended December 31, 2000, revenue totaled $15.7 million, down 37.9 percent over 1999 revenue of $25.3 million.

The Company´s decrease in sales for the year 2000 was primarily attributable to the delay of the introduction of the 8000 Series Workstation as a result of development and testing delays, and a decrease in unit sales volumes of the 5000 Series.

The Company´s net loss for the fourth quarter in 2000 was $4.4 million, or $0.43 per share, as compared to a net loss of $1.4 million, or $0.15 per share, for the same period in 1999. For 2000, the Company´s net loss totaled $17.7 million, or $1.92 per share and for 1999 the loss was $5.4 million, or $0.61 per share. Gross profit (loss) for 2000 was (11) percent of revenues and for 1999 was 29 percent of revenues. Discontinuance of the Company´s FW5000 Series product contributed significantly to the Company´s net loss through inventory write offs and disposal of related tooling. Despite the decision to discontinue the 5000 Series product on a going forward basis, the Company will continue to deliver 5000 Series products pursuant to existing contracts with customers.

Looking ahead to first quarter 2001, the Company expects to complete its previously announced integration process with Kontron Embedded Computers AG, a worldwide leader in embedded computing. Kontron has purchased approximately 65 percent of FieldWorks shares and the Company has initiated a comprehensive restructuring program. Additionally, the Company anticipates that research and development costs will be shared with Kontron in the future and synergy will be gained by the combined efforts. The Company also anticipates the reduction of general and administrative expenses of 60 percent compared to 2000 and that this will remain at a level less than the growth of sales in the future. The emphasis for 2001 is growth in revenue with significant cost control. During the first quarter of 2001, FieldWorks is supplying a major contract from the United States Army valued at more than $4 million.
