The editors continually scan the market for notable new products and chose the Clinic BPC B-101 for its benefits to medical OEMs. Its compliance with DIN EN 60601-1 for safe use in medical environments makes the Clinic Box PC particularly suited to patient monitoring and other close-to-patient applications.
Published in the June issue of ‘Embedded Computing Design’ the award citation stated, “The Kontron Clinic-BPC B-101 is a fanless PC specifically designed for medical close-to-patient applications. IT-based information systems are now crucial in the medical sector for enabling fast response in emergency situations or to continuously monitor vital patient data. For intensive care wards, where permanent observation is essential, special equipment installation is required meaning operators and system integrators need systems that are easy to use and maintain, reduce Ethernet cabling and can connect to several monitors. Kontron’s Clinic-BPC B-101 has three medically isolated LAN ports and optional isolated RS232 interfaces, as well as two independent external monitor outputs (DVI-I and DVI-D) to display electronic patient files and vital patient data simultaneously. Low maintenance is assured due to non-rotating drives, energy-efficient parts, such as mobile Intel® Core™ processors, long-lasting hardware and dust-free housing design.
With its integrated Ethernet switch, this clinical box PC can be connected in sequence (daisy chaining) for reducing the cabling in any patient’s room. A silent and fast SSD, 4 to 16 GB of DDR3 and four USB 3.0 ports complement the system´s feature set. While being easy to clean and disinfect, the robust and highly durable plastic case is resistant to cleaning detergents as well as scratch- and corrosion-proof.
A further option available for OEM customers is to have their own logo imprinted on the casing.
