At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Strong Growth at Kontron - Upturn in the Fourth Quarter Results in 50% plus in Turnover in 2001

At least 40 percent increase expected for 2002

Kontron Embedded Computers AG, the leading provider of miniaturised computers worldwide, achieved a total turnover of 189 million euros for the business year 2001 according to preliminary figures. This is a 50 percent increase compared to the previous year (126 million euros). Above all in the fourth quarter 2001, turnover increased by 30 percent compared to the third quarter (37 million euros) to 48 million euros. For the current business year the company is expecting a plus in turnover of at least 40 percent without taking into consideration the positive effects and synergies following the planned merger with JUMPtec Industrielle Computertechnik AG in the middle of this year.
