SLEAK, SMALL, AND A SERIOUS INTEL® PENTIUM® M CPU MODULE

Kontron´s microETXexpress-PM is ultra compact, yet powerful

FREMONT, CA -- April 4, 2006 -- Kontron, a leading embedded computer technology company, today announced the launch of the microETXexpress-PM, a "micro" version (95mm x 95mm) of Kontron´s ETXexpress product family that represents the smoothest transition both from legacy to future technologies for compact embedded applications. The ultra compact format allows microETXepxress to be used in applications that don´t have sufficient room for ETX or the larger ETXexpress computer-on-modules.

Built around Intel® Pentium® M and Celeron® M processors combined with the Intel® 855 GME chipset, the microETXexpress-PM module is a slimmed down version of the ETXexpress-PM module. It is designed with the ETXexpress connectors to deliver the highest proven data transfer rates, for 6x USB 2.0 and Serial ATA in addition to PCI, IDE, and 10/100Base-Tx Ethernet. The microETXexpress-PM supports up to 1GB of DDR-SODIMM and features an Intel® Extreme Graphics2 video controller for LVDS flat panel and CRT output for resolutions up to UXGA (1600 x 1200) and QXGA (2048 x 1536) respectively. Future microETXexpress modules are planned and in development, these will offer 2 PCI Express lanes and up to 4 Serial ATA ports, which ensures that microETXexpress solutions create an additional level of scalability for ETXexpress based solutions without requiring extensive carrier board redesign.

Kontron anticipates having sample microETXexpress-PM modules available by the May with prices starting at $390 in small quantities. Kontron is showing this new COM product and others during this week´s Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, California, at the McEnery Convention Center (booth #536).

Extending COM Express to Include a "Micro" Form Factor
Kontron will initiate a second round of COM Express standardization with the PCI Industrial Manufacturers´ Group (PICMG) to include a "micro" version along with the Basic and Extended form factors. The PICMG standardization process calls for full discussion and time for appeals by members, so it will be at least the end of the year or early 2007 before an updated standard would likely be officially released.
