At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.

Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.

Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

New Kontron User-Friendly Industrial Graphical User Terminal

PowerPAC PaneIPC-VL with Two PCI Half-Size Expansion Slots and 15

DEGGENDORF/ECHING, Germany, February 18th 2003 The cost-optimized Kontron PowerPAC PaneIPC-VL is an industrial graphical user terminal offering todays highest levels of performance. The units two half-size PCI expansion slots provide more than enough flexibility for most HMI applications. The 15" 200 cd/m² resistive touchscreen display is bright enough to ensure the successful operation of any application even in direct sunlight. An optional multilingual multifunctional soft keyboard also is available. With a height of 7 RU, the PowerPAC PaneIPC-VL can be mounted into an operator console or a 19" switchgear cabinet. Any installation and maintenance work performed on the Panel-PC is a cinch thanks to the units Quick Change mechanism, which allows the PC and display units to be separated from each other without using any tools. This ensures fast and easy access to all PC components.

The PowerPAC PaneIPC-VL is fitted with Intel® processors and it currently can accommodate up to a 1 GHz Pentium® III processor and up to 512 MB of RAM. A 3.5 floppy disk drive and a CD ROM / DVD bay are provided along with a 2.5 hard drive with a current storage capacity of up to 60 GB. An onboard Compact Flash socket can accommodate Compact Flash cards with up to 1 GB capacity. Additional features can be added via two half-size PCI boards that are simply slotted into the system. Kontron also can supply the desired configuration with a customized front panel and all relevant industrial approval certificates. Other display types and sizes are available upon request. The PowerPAC PaneIPC-VL supports the Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows embedded XP and Linux operating systems.
