Kontron Mobile Computing Wins Contract with Fire Department of CIty of Orlando, Florida

Rugged, EnVoy Mobile Data Server at the Heart of Department´s New, State-of-the-Art Data Communications System

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. May 20, 2002 - Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc. (OTC BB: KMBC), a leading supplier of rugged, mobile computers for field-deployed professionals, today announced that the City of Orlando (Fla.) Fire Department will equip its fire trucks and rescue vehicles with Kontron´s EnVoy Mobile Data Server.
The EnVoy Mobile Data Server, one of Kontron Mobile Computing´s flagship products, is an advanced, modular, onboard computer specially designed for in-vehicle use by fire, police, and EMS personnel as well as those in military, industrial and utility environments. With real-time data communications capabilities becoming a "must-have" for public safety departments, the EnVoy delivers the features that turn a vehicle into a mobile command center.
The Orlando Fire Department´s new data communication system includes such applications as computerized dispatch, call response, mapping, and global positioning. This information, transmitted wirelessly, appears graphically on the EnVoy´s color screen mounted within the vehicle. The EnVoy also allows firefighters to collect and wirelessly transmit data in the field.

"Our state-of-the art communications system will help us work faster and more efficiently as we serve the citizens of Orlando," said Lt. Mark Gregory, Orlando Fire Department. "Onboard computers serve as the heart of our system, so we needed ruggedness, durability, and expandability so we could upgrade the computers as our needs and new technologies evolve. It also was important to us to have embedded computer systems -- instead of laptops that can be removed -- for our fire trucks and rescue vehicles. After we reviewed our options, the EnVoy was our best choice."
The department expects that the new communications system will be operational this summer, Gregory added.

"The Orlando Fire Department is truly on the leading edge of fire departments around the world that are starting to employ data communications technologies to improve their services," said Brian Malmberg, vice president of sales, Kontron Mobile Computing. "The EnVoy puts real-time data at a firefighter´s fingertips at the scene where information is most critical. We´re pleased to help the firefighters of the Orlando Fire Department as they do their important work."

With 421 uniformed personnel, the Orlando Fire Department serves a population of more than 185,000 citizens and an area of nearly 100 square miles. Its services include fire suppression, advanced life support rescue, hazardous materials response, arson/bomb investigation, water and high-angle rescue and public education.
