Kontron Holds Its Ground In Difficult Conditions

7% EBITDA and 41% gross margin; Positive cashflow increases to 1.7 million euros; 10 cents net profit per share

Eching near Munich Germany, 23 May 2002 - Kontron Embedded Computers AG achieved a turnover of 47 million euros in the 1. quarter of 2002 (1. quarter 2001: 56 million euros) and a satisfactory result (EBITDA) of 3.4 million euros (previous year period: 6.6 million euros). This corresponds to a margin of over 7 percent. Annual net profit amounted to 2.6 million euros (1. quarter 2001: 3.9 million euros). Profit per share was 10 cents (1. quarter 2001 16 cents). The gross margin rose to 41 percent in the 1. quarter compared to 37.5 percent for the whole of 2001. With a positive operative cashflow, the company was able to generate 1.7 million euros compared to 0.95 million euros for the comparative period of 2001. The liquid funds and financial strength of the group were once again increased: bank debts were reduced from 37 million euros as per 31.13.2001 to 32 million euros at the end of the 1. quarter 2002. In total Kontron can access short term financial assets and available credits of 75 million euros as per 31.03. (compared to 71 million euros as per 31.12.2001). The balance sheet total amounted to 273 million euros at a capital ratio of 70 percent. In spite of the continuing weak state of the world economy Kontron expects a two-digit increase in turnover for the 2. quarter compared to the first three months of the year.
