Customizable Kontron Industrial Silent Servers are the Latest in IPC Severs

Boston (September 26, 2006) – Today, Kontron proudly announce their new Kontron Industrial Silent Server (KISS), an umbrella term for their new IPC servers. KISS represents an extensive range of dedicated industrial computers – due to their modular construction, are available as fully customizable units or as off-the-shelf standard systems.

The Kontron KISS system has been designed with flexibility in mind and can currently accommodate the PICMG 1.0, PICMG 1.2, and the new PICMG 1.3 platforms. In addition, the Kontron KISS can also accommodate a wide variety of industry standard ATX form factor motherboards. These motherboards support the latest technology like Core Duo or Dual Xeon/64-bit based processors, as well as PCI-Express – housed in a chassis that can be used as a tower, desktop or 19-inch rack mounted cabinet.

The key advantage of the Kontron KISS servers is their extremely low noise level, which is inaudible against normal conversation. The Kontron KISS servers are thus ideal for most noise-sensitive environments such as hospital operating theaters and computer server rooms. The performance and flexibility of Kontron KISS servers are based on Kontron’s extensive range of CPU boards and backplanes, which allows them to be adapted to meet a very wide range of requirements. Kontron KISS servers based on the PICMG 1.2 and the new PICMG 1.3 standard enable exciting applications to be realized because they allow not only for PCI 32-bit /33 MHz or PCI-X 66 bit / 133 MHz expansion capabilities but for PCI-Express as well.

Another key feature of the Kontron KISS is that the front door on all systems is lockable and provides protection according to the IP20 rating. The door conceals three 5.25-inch and two 3.5-inch shockproof bays for removable hard drives as well as a Slimbay, all of which are accessible from the front panel. This means that RAID applications with up to four integrated hot swappable hard drives are easily realized. A additional 3.5-inch bay is available internally. The integrated fans are also hot swappable. Depending on the board configuration, the internal power supply is either a 300 W AC (ATX) or a 350 W AC/DC (PICMG) type and the speed of the power supply cooling fan is controllable – quiet operation/fan control is not available in all configurations due to the wide variety available.

The Kontron KISS systems have been designed for continuous operation and will be available for at least the next five years. In addition to being CE-certified, they are also suitable for integration in systems that require UL certification. Please call for pricing information.
