At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Kontron awarded top investor relations rankings
Eching, Munich, June 18, 2009. Kontron AG, one of the world's leading providers of embedded computer systems, has been voted among the top five in two of the most important rankings for investor relations work. Kontron came in at third place among TecDax-listed companies in the "Capital Investor Relations Prize 2009" with its media relations work for analysts, shareholders and other sections of the public. The survey conducted by "Capital" magazine and the German Association for Financial Analysis and Asset Management (DVFA) addressed 400 analysts and fund managers.
Kontron ranked fifth in the TecDax segment of the "German Investor Relations Prize 2009", which is awarded by the economic research institute Thomson Reuters Extel Surveys, along with the "Wirtschaftswoche" magazine and the German Investor Relations Association (DIRK).
"Regular and open communication with all our stakeholders has always been a matter of particular importance to us," commented Kontron CEO Ulrich Gehrmann. "We are pleased to have received this acknowledgement and praise for our investor relations - although we will naturally not be resting on our laurels."
