ICS Advent Introduces New Line of Single Board Computers

New Boards Support Long-Life Applications Where Stability Is Key

SAN DIEGO, Calif., August 21, 2000 - ICS Advent, the premier provider of business-critical applied computing solutions, today introduced AviantTM, a new family of advanced single board computers (SBCs) based on Intel® processors and chip sets. By using components that have a long life, these new boards will have fewer design changes and will thereby reduce the total cost of ownership of applications in which they are used, such as computer telephony, machine control, voice processing, and medical and industrial automation.

The new Aviant family, which launches with two models, the Aviant BX and the Aviant Half-Size (HS) BX, utilizes Intel Celeron and Pentium III processors, as well as Intel´s 440BX chipset, with MMXTM technology and optimized SDRAM. Other common features across the family include: DiskOnChip Flash Disk, which supports diskless operation or additional storage up to 144MB; C&T 69000 high performance Video with 2MB integrated memory, which supports up to 1280 x 1024 resolution; and support for the following operating systems: Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Solaris, SCO, Linux and QNX.

The Aviant family also has the following features:

Dual Serial Ports 16C550 compatible dual serial port controller, with 16 byte receive and transmit FIFO buffers.
Enhanced Parallel Port Single parallel port controller with bi-directional capability (enhanced SPP, EPP and ECP modes).
PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard Connectors Supported by two six-pin Mini-DIN connectors and one five-pin shrouded connector.
EIDE controller (Dual EIDE in the Aviant BX SBC) Integrated enhanced IDE fixed disk controller on PCI local bus; supports primary master and slave drives and ultra DMA/33.
Floppy Drive Controller Supports up to two floppy disk drives with capacities of 360K to 2.88MB.
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Interface Dual USB connectors for high-speed I/O peripheral devices via separate cable and bracket assembly (included).
Watchdog Timer Provides eight segmented (0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 seconds) hardware time-out intervals and is programmable via software to 255 intervals.

Models and Features
The Aviant BX SBC is a highly integrated processor board that utilizes Intel Pentium III processors up to 850 MHz (with 256K cache) or Celeron processors (with 128K cache). This board has four 168-pin DIMM sockets that support up to 1GB of system memory with ECC support and includes onboard 10/100 Base-T Ethernet. This combination of features creates a proven architecture for a reliable and stable platform for a variety of applications, such as IVR, VoIP, unified messaging, machine control and automation.

The Aviant HS BX SBC, which provides an integrated solution in a small size, is ideal for applications where size is critical. Its dimensions are 185 (L) x 122 (W) mm / 7.3"(L) x 4.8"(W). This board computer can be embedded within a machine or used stand-alone. With the Intel Celeron processor, video and DiskOnChip socket, the Aviant HS BX can be configured as a diskless system.

Pricing, Availability and Support
The Aviant BX SBC is priced at $795 and the Aviant HS BX SBC at $595. Both boards are available immediately through ICS Advent´s worldwide distribution network and direct sales channels. They can also be ordered on-line at www.icsadvent.com or by calling an ICS Advent sales representative at (800) 523-2320. The new Aviant boards carry a two-year warranty and customers receive pre- and post-sales technical support.
