At the field, or edge level, data is collected by industrial computers, e.g. by gateways, which process, filter, analyze and act on these data in real-time right at the device.
Edge, fog and cloud applications demand increasing computing power. The interfaces to sensors or machines often require non-standard solutions. Especially in smaller machines, space is limited or restricted in some dimension and need a special solution.
Today, the connection from the sensor device to the embedded cloud takes place via real-time data communication, on sensor and edge level - for example Industrial Ethernet or fieldbuses - and gateways , which provide the transformation of real time data into the informational area.

Ad-Hoc: Kontron successfully closes the sale of its American manufacturing factory
Eching near Munich, August 1st, 2012 – Kontron AG has successfully finalized the sale of AP Parpro Inc., a 100% subsidiary of Kontron America Inc., as of July 31st, 2012. AP Parpro Inc., assembles cables, cable harnesses and metal components, a competence that does not belong to the core business of the Kontron Group. Kontron hereby made a further step towards the strategic focus of its core competences - the global embedded computing business with higher-margin systems and solutions.
The sale of AP Parpro Inc., including the manufacturing facility based in Mexico, is a management buy-out of 100% shares. The purchasing price of about 7,5 Mio. USD will additionally improve working capital of Kontron Group.
